THE INCONVENIENCE STORE

OUTCAST TAKES PORTOLA FESTIVAL

Festival season never ends at Outcast. In fact, we’ll take any excuse we can to keep it going. So this summer, we partnered with Goldenvoice presents, bringing our signature chaos to Palm Springs for Splash House and finally, to San Francisco for one last weekend on the dancefloor. Last week we took over Portola Festival, setting up shop at Pier 80 to debut our immersive bodega pop-up concept — The Inconvenience Store.

As an ode to SF liquor store culture, we stocked the shelves with custom-branded party supplies and grocery staples. We’re perfectionists, so naturally, everything was designed in-house. We even hopped behind the cash wrap ourselves, making sure guests left with their pockets full (and with plenty of free bad advice).

The Inconvenience Store made quite an impression

Guests flocked in for photobooth pictures, posed for our fridge cam and CCTV, and left with printed souvenir receipts documenting their foggy memories.

Condoms, lighters and matchbooks all flew off the shelves. And in between convenience store shifts, the team found a little time to catch some of our favorite artists, including Adela, Zara Larsson, and Swedish House Mafia. Call it market research.

As part of our partnership, we launched a custom Portola x Outcast hoodie

Available exclusively through Portola’s official merchandise tent, the hoodies sold out and were spotted on artists like Underscores and Fatboy Slim.

As well as, apparently, half the festival. We’re thrilled you love Pier Pressure as much as we do.

No city takeover is complete without some boots-on-the-ground marketing

So we teamed up with Mr. Liquor — an infamous SF liquor store with local legend status thanks to its Cutty Bangs.

Think: a DIY cocktail in a bag, complete with a cup of ice so you can take the party to-go. We customized two drink kits with Mr. Liquor and even brought a few along to nearby Dolores Park for a little sightseeing. When in SF, right?

By Monday morning, the party was officially over, and we dragged ourselves onto the plane home sleep-deprived, dehydrated, and already looking for an excuse to do it again. The good news: summer may be ending, but we’re already plotting our next festival takeover. Stay tuned for the next party disguised as a business trip x
